How to use this tool
- Choose one unencrypted PDF after the tools are ready.
- For separate page files, keep “One PDF per page”. To make groups, choose “Exclude pages, then divide into N parts”.
- In grouped mode, enter original page numbers to exclude, or leave exclusions blank. Enter a whole number of parts from 1 to the remaining page count.
- Read the original-page preview. Earlier parts receive one extra page when the pages cannot be divided evenly.
- Select Split PDF and download the ZIP. Grouped output includes numbered PDF parts and page-map.txt with the original page numbers.
When this tool helps
- Create separate page files from a multipage handout.
- Divide a long report into manageable groups for review while preserving page order.
- Leave out a cover or appendix before dividing the remaining pages into parts.
A worked example
Seven pages divided into two parts produces pages 1–4 and 5–7: four pages, then three. If you exclude original pages 6 and 2 first, the remaining order is 1, 3, 4, 5, 7. Two parts then contain 1, 3, 4 and 5, 7. Parts are balanced by page count, not by file size.
Limits and compatibility
- Exclusions apply to grouped mode. The one-file-per-page method keeps every original page.
- Duplicate or overlapping exclusions, reversed ranges and excluding all pages are errors. N must be a positive whole number no larger than the remaining page count; N=1 and N=remaining are supported.
- The input limit is one PDF, 25 MB and 2,000 pages. Output is limited to 100 MB. Many parts or complex pages may need more device memory.
- This does not detect chapters or target a particular file size, and it does not compress or OCR a document.
Up to 25 MB (26,214,400 bytes), 100 files and 2,000 pages per workspace. Encrypted or password-protected PDFs are not supported, including permissions-only encryption. Output is limited to 100 MB and processing to 90 seconds. Keep your originals: forms, bookmarks, accessibility tags and signatures may change or be lost.
Questions about this tool
Do exclusions change the page numbers used in the preview?
No. Exclusions and previews always refer to original 1-based page numbers. Remaining pages keep their original order.
Can I keep selected pages in one PDF instead of a ZIP?
Use Extract pages for a single output PDF and an explicit selection. Grouped splitting with N=1 also creates one PDF, inside a ZIP with its page map.
